Day to day itinerary
While the itinerary is based on suggested accommodation, every journey is fully tailor-made, with our specialists ready to adapt options to your preferences and budget.
Your adventure begins at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK) in Jakarta. Here, you will be met by your local guide at a designated meeting point. Your guide will accompany you on your journey to Kalimantan, your flight departs Jakarta at 06:00 AM. And the journey to Borneo takes 1 hour and 25 minutes, arriving at Pangkalan Bun (PKN) at 07:25 AM.
Upon arrival in Pangkalan Bun you’ll be met and transferred to Lopus Village, a journey of approximately 4 hours by car. Lunch will be provided en route at a local restaurant in Nanga Bulik, Lamandau. After reaching Lopus Village, you will enjoy a short tour and a traditional welcoming ceremony before checking into your homestay for a hands-on cooking class featuring local specialties like chicken, fish, and rice cooked in bamboo and pitcher plants. Your immersion continues with a visit to traditional Dayak houses and burial shrines, followed by the sacred Ikat Tongang ritual, where a village elder presents you with a protective bracelet as a sign of acceptance. The day concludes with a communal dinner with local families and the Bagondang, a lively celebration where you can join the villagers in Hornbill-inspired dancing to the rhythm of drums, chants, and a taste of traditional rice wine.
After breakfast, you will continue your journey by car to Kudangan Village. Sightseeing around the village will allow you to see more longhouses. Afterward, you will drive to Kumai for another 5 hours. Lunch will be provided at a boat. Over the next days, explore Tanjung Puting National Park, known for its orangutan rehabilitation program. Upon arrival in Pangkalanbun, your driver will take you to Kumai, where you will transfer from the car to a riverboat. Boat down the Sekonyer River towards the camp, where you can watch the orangutans being fed by the park rangers. Then continue on the river through the jungle, where you can see different species of monkeys and birds. Your dinner will be served on the boat, where you will spend the night in the glow of the worms.
After breakfast, cruise along the river while spotting primates and exotic birdlife, such as the Stork-billed Kingfisher and the endangered Storm Stork. Your adventure continues with a guided jungle walk to an orangutan observation area, where you will have the unique opportunity to search for orangutan nests in the canopy and learn about their natural habitat. Afterward, proceed to the legendary Camp Leakey, the legendary Orangutan Rehabilitation Camp, where Prof. Birute MF. Galdikas started her study in early 1971. Boating a side creek through tea-colored water where you will see the magnificent reflection from the vegetation along the river. When you are lucky, the freshwater crocodile and other wildlife attractions could be found along river bands. After having lunch and departing from Camp Leakey, we can spend the rest of the day hiking through the Borneo rainforest, exploring peat swamp forest, lowland dipterocarp habitat, searching wildlife or enjoying varieties of fungi, orchids, slipper orchids, mosses and ferns, then enjoying Orangutan feeding time at 14.00 pm.
Having breakfast, the boat will drive to Pondok Tanggui, an Orangutan feeding station, at 09.00 in the morning. This place is nice. Even the orangutans sometimes do not attend the feeding platform, but this is excellent news for ecotourism. It means orangutans prefer natural food and can survive in the jungle. In the afternoon, after your jungle walk, embark on a peaceful river cruise towards the Buluh River. You will navigate the magnificent blackwater river by canoe, providing a quiet and intimate way to explore this secluded part of the National Park. This is the perfect opportunity for birdwatching—keep your eyes peeled for darters, herons, and storks—and if you are lucky, you may spot wild orangutan nests high in the canopy along the riverbanks.
After breakfast, the boat will cruise downstream toward Kumai Harbour. Enjoy your final morning on the river, taking in the tranquil scenery before arriving at the harbor. From there, you will be transferred to the airport in Pangkalan Bun where you will head to your next destination, whether it be home or another part of your trip. While the tour may be over you will never forget your magical experience in Kalimantan of Indonesia!
